Counseling Philosophy
Counselors enable student success through the intentional advocacy for the student. Counselors capitalize on opportunity by thoughtfully partnering stakeholders’ resources with the needs of the students.
My Role as a Counselor
As a professional school counselor, my role is to provide support to students in their pursuit of education. This includes, but is not limited to, the following areas:
Most of my time is spent delivering, coordinating, and implementing guidance curriculum that supports the goals of our school. I also spend quite a bit of time providing responsive services such as individual and group counseling related to immediate problems or concerns. On the elementary level, I also spend some time doing individual planning with students that helps them recognize their strengths. Finally, I offer some system supported as needed in areas such as consultation with teachers, and participation in positive behavior intervention supports.
My goal is to collaborate with students, teachers, parents, administrators, and invested stakeholders in the community so that together we can work for the betterment of our students. No one person can do everything. We are designed to depend upon one another and learn from one another. As the elementary school counselor my job to to help establish and maintain a positive learning community in which all students feel equally valued and have equal access to outstanding education.
